At our 20's we don’t profess to know everything - but we can 100% tell you that there are many things you can’t learn in a classroom. Traveling offers you an entirely different education, and in some ways we learn even more valuable lessons like independence, patience, understanding, appreciation, budgeting… the list is endless. Your travel lessons are a real world education and will set you up for life in terms of knowledge, ability and confidence. A well-travelled individual is a well-rounded individual – you’ve experienced different cultures, you can sympathize with how other people live, you’ve been exposed to new languages, and you’ve pushed the boundaries of what you expect from yourself.
We spend so much money in things that make us temporarily happy. But experiences, memories and moments doing something completely amazing are the real things we remember later in life. The more I travel the more i realize what is worth spending on, like that amazing restaurant with the perfect sunset view in Uluwatu, Bali or attending the Full Moon Party in Thailand. Those are the experiences that motivate me to keep dreaming and being excited about life and new places. I actually have a frame in my room with the meaning of travel - ‘the only thing you can buy that makes you richer’, so you can choose to ignore this advice or you can take it, but I really believe that traveling around the world shouldn’t be hard: it’s actually something everyone should be able to do at least once in their lives. Whether you choose to spend a few years or just a couple months traveling this beautiful planet, it’s important to see what’s out there even if you just go to the country next to yours.
We all have our reasons for not booking the trip of a lifetime. No one to go with. No money in the bank. A career that’s going places. All valid reasons for sure, but with one fatal problem…they’re holding us back from what we actually want to be doing with our lives. You see, finding a reason to not do something is so much easier than finding reasons to do it. The fear of failure inhibits many individuals around the world to follow what their heart whispers to them. Many settle for what is comfortable and safe rather than what could be meaningful. Try and step outside your boundaries and take that leap of faith into whatever experiences that may lie ahead.
Here are some reasons why you should travel now while you’re young…
Being young and in a position to travel wherever, and whenever you like, is one of the greatest gifts on earth, and something we often take for granted. You have no commitments - We’re not talking student loans, rental contracts or significant others. We’re talking serious, life altering commitments, like children, or all the other changes that come with the progression of life.
The art of budgeting - Sleeping in a cheap and uncomfortable bed is somewhat easy and tolerable, when you’re young. | You can party all night and still make that 6:45am train.
Invest in your self, your well-being, and your self-development - Travel opens your eyes to different cultures and communication styles – take your learnings and use them for life!
You will see how other cultures live and appreciate diversity, challenge your senses and try new things.
Life is short and the world is wide - Life is too short, and you may never have another chance to travel and explore the world.
Traveling around the world can be a perfect way to move from one of these life stages into your next great adventure.
People you meet while traveling become some of the most valued names on your contact list. They become places on the map to visit later on. They give you a glimpse outside your hometown circle of friends, and force you to take in new and refreshing perspectives, and ultimately realize that everyone is the same.
It forces you to become more independent - Traveling, during your young adult stages, is quite different from your family holiday in Disney World. You will be put into real-life situations that improve your street as well as organizational skills.
Because you don’t need to be rich, believe me anyone can travel - Now we’re not saying travel is cheap, because we all know that’s not the case, but when you’re young savings are less important, mainly because, let’s be honest, we don’t really have any. We don’t care about fancy airlines or luxury hotels, we’re just chasing experiences and memories.
Climate changes - With today’s extreme weather and the growing effects of global warming, there are a few places on earth that won’t be around to visit later on in your life.
Because who knows what tomorrow may bring - Tomorrow could be just another day, or it could be the day your whole life changes. Live your best life right now, check off those bucket list items, and travel as far and wide as you possibly can.
Traveling young is essentially a journey of self-discovery that will help you figure out what to do with your life.
